Agriculture is the pillar of the Kenyan economy. For a long time, the economy drivers in this sector, farmers, had limited financial support especially in acquisition of farm assets. We saw an opportunity to help these farmers.
In 2004, KDA designed and pilot tested a project that would address financial needs of low-income crop and dairy farmer by financing acquisition of farming assets. This was done through asset financing and micro leasing.
In 2009, Juhudi Kilimo Company Limited was born. It was institutionalized as a for-profit social enterprise that continues to finance and train small-holder farmers.
