Job Title                  : Project Officer/County Coordinator

Reports to               : Project Manager/Programs Manager

Location                 : Western( Kakamega/Vihiga/Bungoma/Busia)

Key Duties and Responsibilities: 

  • Oversee, coordinate and provide leadership during the VSLA project implementation, supervise field promoters and ensure that the project takes off effectively and in a timely manner
  • Provide input to the project progress planning process, promote team ethos among the staff, evaluate and verify project implementation processes and ensure that they are in alignment with the set approaches, makes field visits to the respective groups and Identify challenges and develop possible solutions, organize for the staff meetings and capacity building activities or field promoters’ training that are in line with the project design, appraise project staff and make recommendations for their improvement and growth
  • Organizes and contribute to training program for both field promoters, other project staff and the respective groups.
  • Prepare monthly, quarterly and annual reports to the Program Manager.
  • Get involved in preparation of reports, facilitate development of work plans, support the monitoring and evaluation function
  • Promote organizational sustainability, learning and reflection
  • Building strategic partnerships and engagement with stakeholders including central and county government and development partners.

Qualifications, Skills and Experience: 

  • The applicant must hold a bachelor’s degree in social sciences/ Humanities, community development, Public administration
  • A minimum of 3 years of experience in the similar position or in a program coordination role in a reputable development organization.
  • Previous experience in management of VSLA and M& E training is a must, good knowledge and skills in using computerized systems and processes, in possession of good people and mobilization skills.
  • Excellent data collection, collation and reporting skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication and facilitation skills.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Fluency in English and Kiswahili required.
  • Fluency in the local languages spoken
  • Resident of the local/county of operation
  • Computer literacy, specifically in Microsoft Word and Excel, is required




Job Description for Community Facilitator

Job Title             : Community Facilitator

Reports to          : Project Manager/Programs Manager

Location             : Western( Kakamega/Vihiga/Bungoma/Busia)


The Community Facilitator will serve as community resources for financial mobilization and community contacts. The successful candidates will ensure the stability of community savings and Loans by assisting members organize themselves and build their own resources through a VSLA or community managed savings and Loans associations. Their responsibilities will include but not limited to the following:

Key Responsibilities

  • Take a lead in the establishment, monitoring, and strengthening of village savings and loan associations (VSLAs)
  • Assess capacity of existing VSLAs, including training needs and propose actions to build their management capacities;
  • Participate and support in planning and implementation of VSLAs components of the project
  • Facilitate the creation of independent VSLAs and maintain a training relationship with groups for up to one year.
  • Build awareness and confidence of prospective participants to learn the VSLA methodology use it properly and save actively.
  • Ensure the stability of community savings and loans associations by assisting members organize themselves and build their own resources through VSLA or community managed savings and loan group.
  • Collect monthly group data to be submitted to the project officer, KDA and KCDMS
  • Work with partner organizations to develop quarterly operating plans that result in widespread expansion of VSLAs.
  • Work with the local groups to define, test and document the linkage between mature VSLAs and formal financial institutions
  • Support in organizing the project monitoring and evaluation system and produce reports as required.
  • Facilitate and support the documentation of processes and achievements including documentation for public dissemination.

Qualification Required , Experience and skills
•  A  first degree in  Social Sciences, Adult Education or related field

  • The applicant must hold a bachelor’s degree in social sciences/humanities, community development, micro-finance or Public administration.
    At least 2 years field experience in community mobilization using participatory methodologies.
    •  Proven experience in capacity building programming for community-based stakeholders
    •  Relevant 2 years’ experience in Village Savings & Loans Associations (VSLA) is a must.
    •  Excellent Training, Facilitation & Presentation skills.
    •  Experience in participatory and adult training / education.
    •  Good spoken and written English and Kiswahili plus local language
  • Resident of the local area or county of operation
